ROBERT HEFFERNAN AND his wife Marian have withdrawn from the IAAF World Track and Field Championship’s team following the sudden death of Robert’s mother.
The couple are returning to Cork, Athletics Ireland confirmed earlier, having been scheduled to compete in the men’s 50km and women’s 4x400m relay respectively in Daegu.
A statement from the association today reads: “All of the team members and Athletics Ireland give their heart-filled condolences to both families of Robert and Marian for their loss.”
