Have you seen Ricky Nixon? Aussie super-agent reported to be heading for Ireland as scandal rages

Scout who lured Tommy Walsh to the AFL left Australia amid claims by 17-year-old girl at the centre of naked picture allegations.

RICKY NIXON, THE Aussie Rules super-agent at the centre of  allegations by a 17-year-old girl, is thought to be on his way to Ireland.

The AFL player-manager has attracted some of the GAA’s brightest young talents down under in the past. He left Australia on Monday night (Monday morning Irish time) as yet more damaging tapes emerged.

As reported here, accusations began to surface last week when the teenager at the centre of the St Kilda nude photo scandal told journalists that she had an “affair” with Nixon.

The coach subsequently informed reporters that he had visited the girl in her hotel room on Sunday night and again on Valentine’s Day, though he denied having an affair.

Friday’s Melbourne Herald Sun quoted the agent as saying that “in hindsight my dealings with this girl were inappropriate and I regret them. I won’t be seeing her again.”

Yesterday, videos were made public that allegedly depicted the 47-year-old in a hotel room in his underwear with the girl. There is also a white powder on an adjacent table.

Nixon’s alleged conduct could lead to his deregistration as a player manager, with the association meeting later to decide his fate.

Destination Ireland?

The Sigerson weekend – where the top university footballers are on show – is less than a fortnight away. Nixon has attended the games in the past. Other media organisations last night suggested that he would turn up in New York but at this stage, it seems, Dublin’s T2 is his terminus.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports: “On Monday, he flew to London en route to Ireland, however, it was revealed yesterday authorities were informed in advance. Mr Nixon has business interests in Ireland.”

Australian Twitter users were quick to have their say about the controversial agent’s preferred destination.

Police have confirmed they want to speak to Nixon over the claims. “As Mr Nixon is party to these claims, police to seek to interview him at some stage,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

Nixon’s sudden departure follows video of a man purported to be the agent in underpants on the bed of the 17-year-old girl.

The teenager at the centre of the controversy yesterday said on Twitter that she was meeting with her lawyers ahead of a court appearance but police insisted she had not been charged over the Nixon matter.

The girl told The Australian the court appearance concerned an unrelated matter.

‘Psychological support’

Nixon has been offered ‘psychological support’ by the AFL Players Association. The organisation says it is concerned about his welfare in the wake of the sex allegations.

“Ricky is under a lot of pressure at the moment . . . and this organisation is in the business of providing development and welfare support to young people and player agents,” Matthew Finnis, chief executive of the players’ association said on radio yesterday.

I have communicated with Ricky and the availability of support we have for him should he want to take it up – psychological support.

Despite accusations to the contrary by the teenager, Nixon insisted there had been no alcohol, no drugs and no sex.

The AFL Players Association appears certain to refer its investigation to an independent legal authority.
