Redknapp praises 'outstanding' Dunne as Ireland star continues revitalisation

The defender looks in good form ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

HARRY REDKNAPP PRAISED Ireland international Richard Dunne after he played an important role in helping QPR beat Leeds 1-0 in the Championship today.

The veteran manager, who signed Dunne in the summer, was keen to highlight his role in the victory.

“Elland Road is a tough place to come but at the back we were strong,” he told reporters. “You win the league with clean sheets and Nedum Onuoha and Richard Dunne were outstanding, Clint Hill also popped up in the right place to get the goal.

“There is a new spirit here with the people I brought in, I’m not taking chances. Bringing Richard Dunne in on a free was a no brainer and Gary O’Neil and Danny Simpson have come in and all been excellent.”

The 33-year-old centre-back was yesterday chosen as part of Giovanni Trapattoni’s final 23-man squad, though the Italian coach recently cast doubt on whether he would choose to start with Dunne in the Irish side’s upcoming games.
