Harrington leads after career-best performance

The Irish golfer finished the day on an impressive 10-under par at the Transitions Championship.

PADRAIG HARRINGTON FINISHED the day on 10-under par 61, after a career-best performance at the US PGA Transitions Championship today.

An impressive 75-foot putt for birdie at the par-3 17th hole helped the Irishman to overcome his previous lowest round of 62.

Speaking to reporters, Harrington expressed delight at his promising early form, while admitting his memorable putt was a tad fortuitous:

“I would like to tell you it was funnelling right up the green and couldn’t go anywhere else, but certainly the last 15 feet it was right in the middle of the hole… That’s a bonus, obviously.”

He added:

“We will wait and see what happens over the next number of weeks. I’m trying to stay patient. I know my game is good. One of the hardest things is to wait with confidence.”

And Harrington at one stage seemed as if he could even achieve an all-time tour low of 59, however he admitted he “choked” on the 11th hole, ensuring he would have to be content with his personal record.
