To nobody's surprise, commentators don't learn all those nuggets of information off by heart

Guy Mowbray leaves nothing to chance.

GUY MOWBRAY IS one of footballโ€™s most well-known commentators and has been working with the BBC since 2004.

Last night, the popular commentator was part of the BBC 5Live team covering Liverpoolโ€™s 2-0 win over Newcastle at Anfield and prepared for the encounter in typically meticulous detail.

Some, such as transfer fees, ages and goalscoring prowess are obvious, others not so.

For example, had there been an incident where Simon Mingolet was forced to act as a peacekeeper between two players, Mowbray could have noted the Belgian international has a political science degree.

Likewise, had twins been spotted in the crowd, Mowbray could have told listeners that Javi Manquillo left Madrid at the tender age of 13 following the release of his twin Victor.

Other titbits to make it onto the commentatorโ€™s cheat sheet include the fact Ryan Taylor is a boyhood Liverpool fan and his team-mate Jamie Sterry is eligible for Italy through his grandfather.

All in all, a lot of preparation goes into these games.

Good luck to him. Very popular at anfield, everyone wanted him to succeed. My only fear for him is London itself. Doubt the location will be good for his social life, or maybe too good

Super signing for the hammers, I think Rodgers and Tika-taka have made a bad call here

As a pool fan i think this is very short sighted of the manager. Ok he hasnโ€™t done it but to get rid of him without seeing if he could fit could be a mistake. Its not like we are made of money and there is a mass of players wanting to play at a struggling club

He obviously has Sturridge and Dempsey in the bag. Iโ€™m happy. We will have intelligence and guile back at Anfield. Brendan starting at he means to go on.
