Group C results: Sweden edge past Faroes, Austria held by Kazakhstan

Some of the more highly rated sides failed to convince with their performances this evening.

SWEDEN HAD TO come from a goal down to beat the Faroe Islands this evening in Torshavn.

Rogvi Baldvinsson gave the hosts a shock lead on 57 minutes, before Alexander Kacaniklic equalised eight minutes later.

The game’s winner came from familiar source in the form of AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with 25 minutes remaining, as Sweden failed to convince in their second game of the qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s recent struggles against Kazakhstan were cast in a marginally more positive light, as Austria stuttered to a 0-0 draw with the Kazakhs in the Astana Arena.
