GRIGOR DIMITROV MAY have lost at the Sony Open on Sunday but he certainly won plenty of new fans with a moment of quick-thinking to help a ballgirl struggling with the heat.
Temperatures in Florida topped 30°C during Dimitrov’s third-round match against Kei Nishikori and as the Bulgarian called for his towel between points, he noticed that the ballgirl was in some difficulty.
The world number 16 stopped the match and quickly helped her over to the side of the court where she was able to get some treatment while the crowd showed their appreciation, chanting his name.
Nishikori went on to win in straight sets but Dimitrov — who happens to be dating Maria Sharapova, FYI — showed that he’s a class act.
