World champion boxers devastated after fire at tower block of old club

George Groves and James DeGale say their thoughts are with the residents of Grenfell Tower.

A MASSIVE FIRE at a 24-storey apartment block in west London has killed at least six people and left 64 injured.

200 hundred firefigthers have been battling the blaze at Grenfell Towers since the early hours of this morning and, with residents trapped in the building, the number of fatalities is likely to rise.

It is also home of the Dale Youth ABC (Amateur Boxing Club), which produced current world champions George Groves and James DeGale.

WBA super-middleweight champion Groves and current IBF champion DeGale have understandably been shaken by the tragedy, and both tweeted that their thoughts are with those affected today.

Prayers are with the residents of Grenfell Towers,” said Groves. “Dale Youth ABC has been the past 15 years. I was there Sunday. So sad.”

DeGale added: “Shocked at devastation at #GrenfellTower block, where my old amateur club Dale Youth is. My thoughts are with everyone affected.”
