FORMER MERVUE UNITED players, Greg Cunningham and Ryan Manning faced each other in the Championship yesterday for Preston North End’s meeting with QPR.
The pair are originally next-door neighbours, who grew up together just outside Galway City and their rise to Championship football, culminated in yesterday’s clash.
Cunningham celebrated the event on his Twitter account:

Proud day for me today to line up against my next door neighbour @ryanmanning4. We've come along way from the back garden to the Champ!👊🏻⚽️ pic.twitter.com/GSc41xWcbG
Manning signed a contract extension with QPR at the end of January, after making his first team debut against Wolves on New Year’s Eve. He began his career at Mervue United before joining Galway United in 2014.
Meanwhile, Cunningham made his 200th appearance in English league football appearance last month.
Yesterday’s match also featured a superb goal from Ireland’s Aiden McGeady from distance just before half-time.
McGeady seems to have settled at Preston after a tumultuous period in his club career.
