“It’s going to show Liverpool in a bad light. It just can’t happen – it just puts him in the last chance saloon.
“There are lines you can’t cross and he’s crossed that today. The thing that suffers above all is this football club.
“That’s what children do when they’re in the pram.”
Souness’ colleague, Jamie Redknapp, said that Suarez has “the madness-genius gene” and added:
“To physically want to bite someone is an incredible act of brutality. He has a problem. It’s such a shame,” he said.
“I’ll be surprised if he plays again this season.”
However, Redknapp believes Liverpool will still be willing to stick with the controversial striker, saying: “I’d be surprised if that’s the end of him.”
Meanwhile, both sides’ managers refused to comment, with Brendan Rodgers explaining:
“The only comment at this stage is we’ll review it.”
