IRISH ROWING RECEIVED a significant boost today as the government committed to the development of an international standard rowing facility on Lough Rinn.
The 2,000-metre, six lane-facility is expected to open in County Leitrim next April after it was earmarked as part of a €6m investment by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
Leitrim Tourism confirmed today that the grant will allow Leitrim County Council to complete the work which it has already begun on the complex.
Anthony Dooley, President of Rowing Ireland, welcomed this morning’s announcement as “a major boost to the development of rowing in the region.”

Once open, it is hoped that the Lough Rinn centre will serve as a training base for international teams as well as hosting international competitions.
