Golfing heaven: a cemetery for fans of a good walk spoiled
The good people at Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Bellevue, Washington have created a “Memorial Golf Park”… for when a life on the links just isn’t enough.
IN WHAT MAY yet prove a stroke of marketing genius, a funeral home in the United States has created a graveyard and columbarium specifically tailored to meet the needs of the golfing fanatic.
Sunset Hills Funeral Home plans to open its “Memorial Golf Park”, a one-acre site complete with a manicured green, bunkers and “strategically placed benches”, to (carbonised) members of the paying public next month.
The idea is the brainchild of Arne Swanson, who explained the moment of inspriation behind the idea to Elisa Jaffe of Komo 4 News.
“A family came out to the fairway, and we observed them scattering their loved one on the fairway. And I thought to myself immediately, ‘There’s got to be a better way.’”
In addition to offering the deceased an appropriate final resting place, Sunset Hills also plan to offer themed ceremonies, during which ossuaries would be placed under golf bags.

Should the venture prove successful, Sunset Hills’ may well expand its work in the themed burial industry, possibly incorporating the interests of fans from other sports.
