Golfer Ross Fisher donates to Kerry General

Golfer Ross Fisher has pledged to donate €20,000 to Kerry General Hospital after his young son was treated there during the recent Discover Ireland Irish Open.

EUROPEAN TOUR GOLFER Ross Fisher is to make a charitable donation to Kerry General Hospital.

The Englishman’s four-month-old son, Harry, was taken seriously ill during last month’s Discover Ireland Irish Open at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, resulting in a lengthy spell of treatment at the hospital.

Well placed to mount a defence of the title he won in 2010 prior to the initial diagnosis of meningitis, a clearly distraught Fisher faded in the tournament’s latter stages.

Naturally, the golfer and his wife remain grateful for the likely life-saving care their son received and have, according to an article by John O’Mahony in today’s Star, pledged Fisher’s winnings from the recent WGC-Bridgestone Invitational to the hospital.

Harry’s illness forced Fisher to skip the event, but he was still entitled to collect prizemoney of approximately €20,000.

A spokesperson for the hospital described the donation as “very generous.”
