IRELAND’S ANNALISE MURPHY won gold to cap a dominant performance at the Italian Olympic Week regatta.
The 23-year-old from Rathfarnham started the medal race as favourite on the back of six wins from nine qualifying races in the laser radial class.

Murphy, an agonising fourth at last year’s Olympic Games, showed no signs of nerves as she reeled in her competitors to beat Finland’s Tuula Tenkanen and Tina Mihelic of Finland into silver and bronze.
“Finally pulled off the medal race to win overall!” a delighted Murphy tweeted afterwards as James O’Callaghan, performance director of the Irish Sailing Association, paid tribute to the work she has put in since London.
“Today’s win sees a return to form for Annalise and payback for her training during the winter months.
“This win will boost her confidence for the target events later in the season including the Laser European Championships which will be held in Dun Laoghaire in September.”
This week’s regatta was the first of five in the Eurosaf series, which continues at Delta Lloyd in the Netherlands on 21 May.
