Going nowhere: Counihan to stay on with Cork

Cork back in business with Aghada man.

ALL-IRELAND WINNING-manager Conor Counihan has ended weeks of speculation by agreeing a new two-year deal with the Cork County Board.

In a short statement released by Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the past hour, Rebels fans learned the news for which they’d hoped since the win over Down in the Croke Park decider last month.

The statement read:

Coiste Chontae Chorcaí is pleased to announce that Conor Counihan has accepted the new two-year term as Cork senior football manager offered to him following last week’s County Board meeting.

He will retain his current selection committee of Peadar Healy,Terry O’Neill, Ger O’Sullivan and Jim Nolan.

Counihan helped the Rebels to the Sam Maguire Cup – after a 20-year wait – in his third year in charge, and recently took some time out to consider his options.

He will now begin plans to build on that success next season.
