Manchester United will spend almost €500 million in total on Shaw, Di Maria and Mata

Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona could amount to over €250 million.

MANCHESTER UNITED WILL spend a total of €494.1 million on just three players once the total costs of the transfers are paid out.

A study carried out by Goal.com shows the maximum potential price of a number of transfers when all foreseeable costs are included.

This includes players’ salaries, agents fees and add-ons. When all costs are taken into consideration Angel Di Maria will eventually cost Manchester United €240.7 million.

19-year-old Luke Shaw, meanwhile, will cost the Reds €130.9 million while the total cost of Juan Mata will amount to €122.2 million.

Last year’s world record transfer fee of €100 million for Gareth Bale was the most expensive total transfer of 2013, eventually adding up to just under €200 million.

That figure looks small in comparison to the most expensive transfer deals of the last 12 months. Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona slots in at the top of the list, totaling €252.9 million if all bonus-related objectives are met during the course of his five-year deal at the Nou Camp.

An example of the add-ons included in the study is the additional €5m Manchester United are due to pay Real Madrid for Di Maria should the Argentine win the Ballon d’Or during his time at United.

Taking such an example into consideration it must be noted that not all of the transfers will come to the maximum potential cost but, were they to, it would result in a huge €1.5 billion changing hands.

The top ten transfers are as follows:

  • Luis Suarez – Liverpool to Barcelona for a total cost of €252.9 million.
  • Angel Di Maria – Real Madrid to Manchester United for a total cost of €240.7 million.
  • James Rodriguez – Monaco to Real Madrid for a total cost of €169.7 million.
  • Alexis Sanchez – Barcelona to Arsenal for a total cost of €143.3 million.
  • Luke Shaw – Southampton to Manchester United for a total cost of €130.9 million.
  • Diego Costa – Atletico Madrid to Chelsea for a total cost of €130 million.
  • Cesc Fabregas – Barcelona to Chelsea for a total cost of €126.5 million.
  • Juan Mata – Chelsea to Manchester United for a total cost of €122.2 million.
  • David Luiz – Chelsea to PSG for a total cost of €115 million.
  • Eliaquim Mangala – Porto to Manchester City for a total cost of €111.2 million.
