Glen Rovers produced a rousing finish to overcome Douglas in the Cork SHC semi-final replay at Páirc Uí Chaoimh this afternoon.
Having seen a six-point lead evaporate in last week’s drawn game, this time the northsiders were the ones with the momentum in the closing stages. Two points from Dean Brosnan and one by Conor Dorris ensured their passage to the final against Sarsfields next Sunday, a repeat of the 2010 decider, which Sars won.
That Dorris and Brosnan were the heroes was appropriate as both shone in attack as Patrick Horgan was held scoreless from play by Cork colleague Eoin Cadogan.
He and Frank Tobin were excellent in defence for Douglas, who looked likelier winners when they opened up a four-point lead in the 38th minute.

The game won’t be remembered as a classic, with the opening exchanges littered with wides, not sparking to life until Alan Cadogan’s goal put Douglas 1-0 to 0-2 ahead on 18. The younger Cadogan and Mark O’Connor were both to the fore in attack, but Dorris’s rocketed finish to the top corner put the Glen 1-4 to 1-2 ahead six minutes before half-time.
The remainder of the half was all Douglas though, O’Connor with three points, and they carried that good form into the second period, sub Finbarr Desmond making it 1-9 to 1-5.
An individual goal from Brosnan got the Glen back into it and they were ahead in double-quick time, with most of the final quarter a back-and-forth affair. Both had chances to win it as extra time loomed, but in the end it was the Glen who took them.
Scorers for Glen Rovers: C Dorris 1-4, D Brosnan 1-3, P Horgan 0-4 (frees).
