BOOKMAKER PADDY POWER has suspended betting on Giovanni Trapattoni’s reign as Republic of Ireland manager ending before 2013.
With football fans still reeling from Friday night’s humiliating 6-1 defeat against Germany, a report in Monday’s Irish Independent suggested that not even a win against the Faroe Islands tomorrow can save the Italian now.
As reports of a management bust-up with Fulham defender Stephen Kelly came through, punters responded by weighing in at odds of 2/1 on 73-year-old Trapattoni being out of a job by the end of the year.
“A swathe of money” forced Paddy Power to slash their prices to 11/10 before closing the market completely this afternoon.

“The amount of money placed over such a short period would lead us to believe that something is afoot and it’s safe to say that we’re running scared on this one,” a spokesperson for the betting giant said.
Former Ireland boss Mick McCarthy is currently the bookies’ favourite to replace Trapattoni with Chris Hughton, Brian McDermott, Owen Coyle and Martin O’Neill also linked with the post should Trap get the sack.
