IRELAND’S GINA AKPE-MOSES finished outside the medal positions in this evening’s World U20 Athletics Championships 100 metres final, clocking a slower time than the one which saw her qualify from the semi-finals.
The 19-year-old advanced through to tonight’s final as one of two fastest qualifiers, becoming Ireland’s first 100m finalist since 2000 as she looked to add World gold to the European crown she won last summer.

But Akpe-Moses, running in lane two, crossed in eighth place in a time of 11.64.
Ciara Neville, meanwhile, was unable to join Akpe-Moses in the final after finishing fifth in the third semi-final in a time of 11.70 — but it was another hugely encouraging performance from the Limerick athlete, who only recently completed her Leaving Certificate.
Elsewhere, after running a lifetime best of 21.06 in the 200m heats, Aaron Sexton finished fifth in his semi-final.
World junior 100m finalist, came 8th overall. Not what I wanted but I can only come back stronger. I thank God letting it all happen and also all the support from my team. Big big things coming from me. It’s only just the beginning @irishathletics@UnderArmourUK@ANDYgPAULpic.twitter.com/xeyU8wFQfT
