16-year-old runs the show for Arsenal and sets up sweet Walcott goal

Expect to see Gedion Zelalem taking the whizz out of teams in the League Cup.

HE HAS ALREADY earned lavish praise from Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere but Gedion Zelalem had his boss Arsene Wenger shaking his head in wonder today.

The 16-year-old picked out the pass of the match in the Gunner’s 3-1 win over Nagoya Grampus today, setting up Theo Walcott for his side’s third goal. The Germany underage international, born to an Ethiopian father, has impressed with the Arsenal youth team and earned himself a trip on the senior side’s preseason tour.

Speaking about Zelalem before setting off for Asia, Wilshere said, “There’s a young lad called Gedion, he’s a good player. He’s a bit… physically, he’s not there yet but technically, he’s not far off.”

The teenager, who was spotted playing for Olney Rangers Soccer club in Maryland, USA, made his mark in the club’s 7-0 win over the Indonesian All-Stars.
