Gerry Armstrong still waiting on Northern Ireland response

World Cup hero says he’s yet to hear back from the IFA on his application to succeed Nigel Worthington.

NORTHERN IRELAND FOOTBALL great Gerry Armstrong has been waiting by the phone… but he’s yet to hear from the IFA.

The Sky Sports La Liga pundit applied for the job of national team manager vacated by Nigel Worthington after the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

The likes of Shamrock Rovers manager Michael O’Neill; his assistant, Jim Magilton; Dave Jones and Iain Dowie are all thought to be in the running for the post.

“I feel I’ve as good a chance as anybody” the former striker told UTV earlier. “But I haven’t heard anything else, so as yet nothing’s moving.

“There are a lot of good candidates that have applied. Until the Irish FA decide what they want to do, who they want to speak to and until they have the official interviews I don’t think anything will move.

“I spoke to Dave Jones, funnily enough, a few days ago and Dave told me the same thing. He hasn’t heard anything from the Irish FA.”

The North face Norway at Windsor Park on February 29. Hoops boss O’Neill is the favourite after he reportedly told his players he’d leave the club after Thursday’s game against Spurs.
