Everton starlet Gerard Deulofeu called up for Spain's friendly with Bolivia

Vicente del Bosque has delayed naming his World Cup squad for a week.

SPAINISH FOOTBALL BOSS Vicente del Bosque has called up Everton midfielder Gerard Deulofeu ahead of the upcoming friendly against Bolivia.

Deulofeu played on-loan with the Toffees last season but may be in line for a Barcelona breakthrough next season under new manager Luis Enrique.

Del Bosque told the media, at this afternoon’s squad announcement, that he will look at the young midfielder in training and during the friendly. He added, however, that he was unlikely to include Deulofeu in his 23-man World Cup squad.

Spain were due to confirm their squad for next month’s tournament at the press briefing but Del Bosque has put back any final decisions until 2 June. He cited Saturday’s Champions League final between Spanish sides Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as his reason for delaying a squad announcement. Diego Costa, who limped off after nine minutes of Atletico’s defeat, is a major injury doubt [hamstring] while Jesus Navas still needs to prove his fitness.

The squad, for the Bolivia friendly, contains several players that ply their trade in the Premier League — David de Gea, Cesar Azpilicueta, Sanit Cazorla, Javi Martinez, Juan Mata, David Silva and Fernando Torres. There is no place for Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo or Fernando Llorente of Juventus.
