NORTHAMPTON OPENED UP their season with a 53-6 thumping of Gloucester last Friday but it was winger George North who drove his side on to such a comprehensive win. The Welshman scored a devastating hat-trick of tries while also putting in a massive defensive performance and catching a few high balls too.
You know you had a special game when your team score over 50 but the highlight video is basically titled “The George North Show”.
As impressive as North’s tackle to dislodge the ball from Charlie Sharples was, there was an even more jaw-dropping feat of physicality in Exeter’s 52-0 rout of London Welsh. Look at what Sam Hill does at the one minute mark here.
Hill’s smash and grab was reminiscent of Welsh centre Scott Williams’ try at Twickenham in 2012, where he displayed basically every skill needed to be a modern day back.
But back to North, is there a better winger in world rugby at the moment? He is only 22 but has 42 international caps already. It is scary to think how dominant he could be; another Jonah Lomu maybe?
