AFTER JUST SEVEN games in charge of OFI Crete in the Greek league, former AC Milan and Rangers midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has resigned.
The Italian took charge of the club in June but decided to throw in the towel after Saturday’s defeat to Asteras Tripoli. He has now had three managerial roles in the last eighteen months since hanging up his boots in 2013.
Gattuso claimed the club’s financial difficulties as one of the main reasons behind his decision but also admitted he didn’t see eye-to-eye with the players.
“The players don’t believe in me,” The 36-year-old said. ”I have put all my passion and all my strength into this team but I can’t be the one solving all the club’s problems every day.
“I’m not the president and my job should only be football. I feel very upset but I cannot continue.”
During his playing days, the hard-tackling midfielder was never far from controversy but it seems he didn’t leave his fiery demeanor on the pitch. In May 2013 he was sacked by Swiss club FC Sion after eleven league games before his time in charge of Serie B side Palermo lasted six matches.
Leeds United is surely next for him. For a month.
He’s a knob anyway
Would be interesting to know what qualification he has attained in order to manage it head coach. Obviously and from some other examples, having a reasonable playing career does not mean managerial or head coach success.
Italian Roy Keane
Wouldn’t lace Keane’s boots
Might be in line to take over from fat sally
