Gavin Henson suffers suspected fractured cheekbone in friendly

The London Welsh back was about to embark on his latest comeback, following the termination of his Cardiff Blues contract in April.

CONTROVERSIAL WELSH BACK Gavin Henson could be set for another extended spell on the sidelines after suffered suspected fractured cheekbone on Saturday.

The 30-year-old was playing in a friendly for London Welsh against Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets, and was hit late by Deacon Manu, much to the annoyance of the Exiles’ head coach Lyn Jones.

Henson tried his best to play through the pain but had to be replaced after 33 minutes.

Jones said: “It was a late shoulder barge off the ball and he’s gone for precautionary X-rays. We’re hoping for the best but if it’s the worst he’s not the first player to get injured.

“No player wants to get injured in a pre-season friendly because of all the hard work that’s been done leading up to it. You have to deal with these things in rugby. There’s no use crying.”

Henson recently said he plans to do his talking on the pitch, having seen his contract with the Cardiff Blues terminated in April after a drink-fuelled incident on a flight from Glasgow.

Armstrong tells supporters: Don’t cry for me >
