Chelsea left reeling after Gary Cahill sent off for horror challenge

Chelsea are 3-0 down at Stamford Bridge with captain Cahill dismissed early in the first half.

GARY CAHILL WAS sent off less than 15 minutes into his first Premier League game as Chelsea club captain.

gc2 Chelsea's title defence has gotten off to a terrible start, 3-0 down and a man down.

The defender was late on a challenge with Burnley’s Steven Defour earlier this evening, with Cahill brandishing his studs enough for referee Craig Pawson to give him his marching orders.

Chelsea went behind just 10 minutes later when Sam Vokes brilliantly maneuvered Matt Lawton’s cross into the bottom corner of Thibaut Courtois’s goal.

Two more goals from Stephen Ward and a second for Vokes had Burnley 3-0 up at the break.

gc5 Cahill was sent off for a late lunge after just 14 minutes.

Cahill was made club captain following the departure of long-serving skipper John Terry at the end of last season.

Antonio Conte already has a smaller squad than other title rivals at his disposal this season and a suspension for his captain will not make his task any easier.

Chelsea won the title for the second time in three seasons in 2016/17, with Cahill featuring in 37 league games as the Blues kept 16 clean sheets.
