Glowing reference: Bale is best in Europe... according to Zizou

The Real Madrid icon says there’s a couple of clubs who won’t be put off by the transfer fee.

THIS IS ONE for the CV.

Zinedine Zidane has spoken of his admiration for Gareth Bale and thinks clubs will be prepared to pay hefty sums to land the Tottenham star.

Bale has enjoyed an outstanding season for Spurs and is reportedly being eyed by a number of the continent’s top clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The White Hart Lane outfit are likely to ask for a large transfer fee if they do decide to relinquish Bale’s services, but FIFA World Cup winner Zidane does not think that will deter potential suitors from moving for the Wales international.

“Tottenham could command £40 million, £50m, maybe even £60m for him,” the Real Madrid director of football said. “It is a lot of money but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee and it won’t put them off.

“A player like Bale can be the difference between a big club winning the league or Champions League. They would be getting the best player in Europe this season and he is at an age where he can still play at the top for another 10 years.

“What I like about him is that he has this electric pace but also a big footballing brain to go with it. That is very rare.”
