Gareth Bale set to sign new £130,000-a-week contract with Spurs - reports

However, there will be a clause in the player’s deal saying he can leave next summer for £50m.

GARETH BALE WILL sign a new deal at Tottenham worth £130,000-a-week, according to reports.

The player’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months, and talk that he was set to leave intensified after the club’s failure to secure a Champions League spot was confirmed yesterday.

It is understood that an announcement will be made shortly, which will come as good news for Tottenham fans despondent at being pipped to fourth place at the weekend by rivals Arsenal.

Speaking in relation to Bale recently, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas said: “If we want to make it better next season we have to hold on to our best assets and this is what I have been told from the top.

“The reference from the points tally is there so for us to make it better we need to keep hold of the best assets. It is very difficult to lure a player of this dimension away.”
