CONOR WHELAN WILL make his first senior appearance for Galway this weekend.
The 18-year-old Kinvara player is a surprise inclusion in Anthony Cunningham’s half-forward line for Sunday’s All-Ireland hurling quarter-final against Cork at Semple Stadium, Thurles (4.00pm).
Whelan recently featured for the Tribesmen as they claimed the Leinster intermediate title, but Sunday’s clash with the Rebels will be his first competitive appearance at senior level.

Whelan and Jason Flynn have been drafted into Galway’s attack, while Davy Glennon and Fergal Moore have been left out as the beaten Leinster finalists make two personnel changes from their defeat to Kilkenny.
