GALWAY WILL HOST some of snooker’s biggest names next year when the city stages the Players Tour Championship Grand Finals.
The four-day event will take place in NUIG’s Bailey Allen Hall over St Patrick’s weekend (March 14-18) and has already secured the likes of Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullican, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and John Higgins.
It is a major coup for the city and the west of Ireland – as well as attracting a considerable following, the tournament is being covered extensively on Eurosport.
The Players Tournement Championship series will come to a climax in Galway, and there is a total prize fund of around €300,000.
A spokesman for World Snooker said on their website: “Our players have been all around the UK and Europe already this season, to locations including Poland, Belgium and Germany, and it has been a fantastic experience to bring snooker to those locations, where the popularity of the sport is growing fast.

“Now all eyes turn to Galway for what is sure to be a thrilling conclusion to the series. We staged the Grand Finals in Dublin last season and it was very well supported.
“We know there is a great passion for snooker in Ireland so we have no doubt the fans will come to Galway and help create a sizzling atmosphere for the best players in the world.”
