THE FEATURE RACE on the final day of the Galway Festival, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF ‘Ahonoora’ Handicap, was won by the Brian Ellison-trained Baraweez.

The four-year-old, a 4-1 joint favourite, came a half-a-length ahead of second-placed Jack’s Revenge (9-2) with Pacific Heights (4-1J) in third. It was Baraweez’s second race at Ballybrit this week after finishing third in the Topaz Mile.

“He’s a fabulous horse and you’d love 10 more like him,” O’Donoghue told goracing.ie. “He was very sharp from the gate and he got into a lovely rhythm. I got there too soon really, but he had enough left.”

“It was always the plan to run in the two races as long as he acted on the track,” added Yorkshire-based Ellison.

We had him out the other day and he dropped the lad – he was bucking and kicking, so we knew he was well.

“We’ve had a great week here and have been looked after very well. It’s a great place and hopefully we’ll have runners here again.”

Elsewhere, Tony Martin had his fifth and sixth winners of the week with Ted Veale (6-5F), ridden by Barry Geragthy, in the At The Races Beginners Chase and 5-2 favourite Pyromaniac with Fran Berry on board.
