Wave goodbye: Galway's Joyce retires from inter-county football

The player won two All-Ireland titles over the course of his career.

GALWAY’S PÁDRAIC JOYCE has today announced his retirment from inter-county football.

The player won three All-Star awards over the course of his career, in addition to a Footballer of the Year award in 2001.

Joyce, who was regarded as one of the best forwards to play the game in recent years, also won six Connacht Senior Football Championship titles.

He featured in Galway’s All-Ireland triumph in 1998 as a youngster, though his most memorable season arguably came in 2001, when he played an integral role as he helped his county win the Sam Maguire for the second time in his career.
