Galway and Connor part company

Sean Connor and Galway United have agreed to go their separate ways as a difficult season at Terryland Park continues.

GALWAY UNITED HAVE parted company with manager Sean Connor.

The Tribesmen picked up their first league point since April when they drew 2-2 with Dundalk at Terryland Park on Friday evening, amid speculation that it would be Connor’s final match in charge.

The chatter was confirmed in a statement from the club on Saturday morning, confirming that both parties had agreed to go their separate ways by “mutual consent”.

It added: “Galway United Football Club thanks Sean for his efforts under very difficult circumstances and wishes him the best in the future.”

The Belfast native’s future with United has been in doubt since July when a statement from the management committee, which now runs the club on a day-to-day basis, stated that it had “no confidence” in their team boss. It has, however, taken several weeks for the manager to agree terms for his departure.

Galway United did not receive a Premier Division licence ahead of the 2011 season but were later awarded a position in the Division. The club has struggled to make an impact in the months since however, and are now bottom of the top division with six points (one win and three draws) from 28 games.
