THE GAA HAVE confirmed that there will be an opportunity to review proposals regarding the experimental Gaelic football rule changes before the start of the 2019 national leagues.
Five new rule changes were debated at an Ard Chomhairle meeting in Croke Park at the weekend, and are set to be experimented during the pre-season competitions and the Allianz Football Leagues.
However, following a meeting between representatives of the GAA and GPA, it was noted that while the first part of this experimentation process will take place during the pre-season competitions, the proposals will then be reviewed before the leagues commence.
โThe GAA and GPA can confirm that a meeting took place in Croke Park earlier today that included GAA President John Horan and GPA CEO Paul Flynn,โ read a joint-statement released by the GAA.
โThe meeting was held at the request of the GPA to seek further clarification on the process for the introduction of the trial playing rules in Gaelic Football.
โIt was noted that the initial part of the rules experimentation will take place in the upcoming Provincial Pre-Season competitions.
The GAA confirmed that there will be an opportunity at the next scheduled meeting of Ard Chomhairle on 19 January to review the proposals ahead of the Allianz Leagues.
โThe GPA have agreed to continue to liaise with the Standing Committee on the Playing Rules between now and January.โ
The rule changes relate to restricted use of the hand-pass, the sideline kick, the introduction of the โsin binโ and the advanced mark.
An amended version of the kick-out proposal was also passed at the weekend, which will see all kick-outs take place from the 20m line without having to pass the 45m line.

Great elitist gpa talking to donโt care HQ. The game is about clubs and that should be the focus Neither of the 2 parties care about the clubโs.
@john s: GPA members play for clubs too. So this is pure mโanure.
@Abe: obviously your maths isnt great 30 players on an intercounty squad yet the club scene in most counties put on hold for the intercounty boys. Gpa and hq look the other way through the club scene april an answer.
Club players left with no meaningful football for months at a time. Elite players on the county scene donโt give a dam
@samstheman: really ?? Name me 5 county championships that get played from start to finish in the summer where it should be. Gpa and HQ are more interested in money. If gpa were so good for the club player then why has the cpa been set up.
Nut rather throwing stones just answer the above question. Thanks.
@john s: didnt realise the players decide the inter county format and fixtures. Suppose theyโre only in it for the money.
@Abe: thanks answering the question.
@Abe: The GPA, as a body, doesnโt particularly care about clubs. Thatโs why the CPA was formed as a separate entity. Even the club players hadnโt enough faith in the GPA to trust them to represent them properly, so why do you think any different?
@john s: Yup sure I did. Youโre welcome.
@samstheman: yup.
@Jumperoo: I agree with you โ the role of the GPA is to represent county players so they are performing their role as expected. I also agree the CPA is required to represent clubs. But to say GPA members dont care about clubs is wrong and disingenuous.
@Jumperoo: why exactly should the club championships be played in the summer? Considering provincial championships are in November/December? Wouldnโt make sense having county championship Finals in July/August and not playing championship football until November again
@Mel Roberts: where did I suggest having county finals in July and August?
@john s: what are you? A five year old? Grow up and learn about your sport and who runs what. Of the clubs wanted to play they would. They control the county boards and fixtures committees. They choose to wait.
Jesus christ enough ith the rules for christ sake, leave the game be played as its meant to be played and stop with this anti-Dublin brigade, they werent throwing in 20 new rules a year when Kerry were stomping all over everyone
@James Godson: actually, yes they did โ canโt handpass a goal anymore, defined the handpass as being with a closed fist not an open hand are two that spring to mind. The game needs changing because with the exception of watching a couple of games a season, it is awful to watch
