Frozen pitch in Thurles forces club hurling semi-final switch

The Premier County’s Allianz football league fixture has also been moved.

THE RECENT COLD snap has forced the GAA to switch this weekend’s AIB All-Ireland hurling club semi-finals from Thurles after the pitch at Semple Stadium failed an inspection today.

With forecasts predicting sub-zero temperatures over the coming days, the decision has been taken to move the two games that were supposed to take place as a double header on Saturday.

The game between Portaferry (Down) and Kilmallock (Limerick) has been switched to Cusack Park, Mullingar but will still have a 2pm throw-in.

The second semi-final — featuring Gort (Galway) and Ballyhale Shamrocks (Kilkenny) — has been moved to O’Connor Park, Tullamore and will also throw-in at 2pm.

The Allianz Division III game between Tipperary and Limerick which was due to be played at Semple on Sunday will now take place at 2pm in Templetuohy.
