Friends bring murdered teenager's coffin to the football

Supporters at a top-flight Columbian league game paraded the dead boy’s remains.

BILL SHANKLY FAMOUSLY insisted that football was more important than life and death. These ultras seem to agree.

Just hours after 17-year-old Christopher Jacome was gunned down in his local park on Saturday, fans of top-flight Colombian side Cucuta Deportivo stole his body from the funeral home, headed for the stadium and forced their way through security with the coffin.

The friends of the teenager – who was a member of their fan group –  watched the game against Envigado as they shouldered and held the coffin throughout.

The medic for the soccer club, Julio Rivera, told the press, “They don’t let in the “barras” (fanatics) but yes, a cadaver. This is the only part of the world where this has happened.”
