Frank Lampard set to join Manchester City on loan from New York - reports

The 36-year-old midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

FRANK LAMPARD IS set for a shock loan move to Premier League champions Manchester City, according to several reports in the British media.

The 36-year-old midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea after playing a peripheral role with the side last season.

He subsequently signed for New York City FC on a free transfer this summer, but it’s understood that he now favours a loan move to Chelsea’s title rivals, despite interest from a host of other clubs including Melbourne and Queens Park Rangers, with his parent club’s season in the MLS not beginning until March.

The reports suggest that City hope to conclude the deal prior to next weekend’s Community Shield game with Arsenal and intend to register Lampard in their Champions League squad.
