Red cards for French and Tongan foes after rugby brawl

France got revenge for their World Cup defeat but a fractious tie ended as a 14-a-side.

FRANCE AVENGED A 2011 World Cup defeat to Tonga at the weekend as Morgan Parra kicked 16 points in a 38-18 win.

The French were fired up for the match and got off to a superb start, going 14-0 up after 28 minutes. Tonga knocked over two penalties before Damien Chouly put France well clear at the break.

The second-half was less than 60 seconds old when Tongan prop Sona Taumalolo and French lock Yoann Maestri took time out from playing rugby to ring some bells.

Referee Glen Jackson had a word with his officials, one of whom was Wayne Barnes, before sending both players off. Two more French tries followed before former Connacht winger Fetu’u Vainikolo dotted down for a late consolation.
