Police in Italy are still searching for the other vehicle involved in the collision which happened in the Settebagni area, the Telegraph reports.
Born in Rotherham, Lynch was eligible to represent Ireland through his parents and was part of the squad for the U19 World Cup in South Africa in 2005. As a tight-head prop he played for Belfast Harlequins and Rotherham Titans among others.
“Brendan was a lovely young man, who shared our values and those of our wonderful game,” Titans chairman Nick Cragg said. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Brendan’s family and friends.”
Alfredo Gavazzi, President of the Italian Rugby Federation, expressed the FIR’s sympathies to Lynch’s family and friends in a short statement.
He was ”top top bloke,” said Ulster and Ireland centre Darren Cave, a team-mate of Lynch’s in South Africa, in a message posted to Twitter earlier today.
