The English coach and the three-time European champions parted company yesterday, with forwards coach Richard Cockerill appointed interim head coach three months after arriving in France.

Wallaby great Matt Giteau has also taken more responsibility in the shake-up, assigned to a player-coach role ahead of the clash with Toulouse this weekend.

Toulon sit fourth in the Top14, but are very much in a transition period with Fabien Galthié already lined up to take charge next season. Cockerill, Toulon’s third head coach this season after Ford and Diego Dominguez, will become head coach of Edinburgh in the summer.
