Five things we learned this weekend...

Some of the lessons we took from the weekend’s action, including which Ireland rugby player is most likely to jump Snake River Canyon.

1.  Charlie Nicholas isn’t good at banter

The former Celtic and Arsenal striker, Champagne Charlie, really needs to have a couple of zingers lined up in case he’s stumped again.

This rambling riposte? Not for me, Jeff.

2. Brett Favre loves money

The NFL icon saw his genuinely amazing run of 297 consecutive starts end last night as he sat out the meeting with the New York Giants in Detroit.

Within hours of the team news becoming public, however, the Vikings quarterback’s own website was selling memorabilia commemorating the ‘start streak’.

He had known he wasn’t to start for the entire week.

3. Don’t roof it…

That game was 30 hours later than originally scheduled and in a different city of course because the Metrodome roof collapsed under the weight of heavy snowfall.

Check out the amazing footage.

4. British ice hockey protests too much

This bench-clearing scrap smacks of desperation, if you ask me. Good though.

5. Jamie Heaslip is an Evel Knievel fan

For those of us took BMX’s off some pretty sweet jumps, this tweet from the Ireland rugby player, made complete sense:

Bones break,wounds mend,chicks dig scars,pain is temporary,glory is forever

Presumably Heaslip is taking inspiration from Knievel as he battles to be fit for the Heineken Cup clash with Clermont on Saturday at Lansdowne Road.

Shine on, Evel, you crazy diamond.
