Five steps to heaven: Rugby World Cup special

We’ve sifted through the many, many World Cup betting markets to choose our five best bets. (Warning: None of these will win)

LOOKING FOR SOME value bets to see you through the next six weeks of rugby action? Well, look no further.

If you’re betting with the right establishment, you can have a punt on pretty much anything from which side Jonny Sexton will have his hair parted on, to the temperature in Eden Park on 23 October.

And even though “right” and “17°C” are clearly the winning selections in those two markets, you’ll be pleased to hear that we’ve restricted our choices to actual rugby bets.

We’re not quite so bold as to pick an outright winner, but here are five bets that we think represent a little bit of value for money.

(None of these will actually come up, so feel free to leave better suggestions in the comments below).

Wales to be eliminated in pool stages (11/4)

  • Wales to be eliminated in pool stages (11/4)

  • Ireland to win Pool C (10/3)

  • Top Irish Tryscorer: Brian O'Driscoll (6/1)

  • Top Pointscorer: Morne Steyn (7/2)

  • Alain Rolland to referee the World Cup Final (9/4)

Lots of value in the handicaps. The weaker teams are far more competitive than they suggest. Romania were plus 33 and Japan plus 41. Look at Italy plus 30 against Australia and USA plus 34 against Ireland
