FORMER WATERFORD HURLING manager Davy Fitzgerald will be confirmed as manager of the Clare hurlers next month, the county’s PRO Syl O’Connor has told The Score.
At a meeting at the West County Hotel in Ennis on Tuesday night, the All-Ireland-winning goalkeeper was the only nominee to take over the role left vacant by Ger O’Loughlin in July.

O’Connor confirmed that Fitzgerald and his prospective backroom team will attend a meeting on 11 October, where their appointments will be ratified.
“All the clubs were asked to submit a name and the only name was Davy’s. He’s coming on the 11th to put his plans in place. Nobody else appeared on any list that came in and everyone is delighted to get Davy in,” said O’Connor.
“He brings a very professional approach to things, and with a lot of good young players in the ranks we’re expecting good things.”
O’Connor also revealed that Brian Lohan, winner of two All-Ireland medals with the Clare hurlers, is one of several people expected to form part of Fitzgerald’s backroom team.
“There have been a number of names mentioned.
“Louis Mulqueen is in there, Brian Lohan for obvious reasons and Mike Deegan, who has been very successful with Cratloe in the last two years.
“While I can’t confirm anything they’re the names being mentioned and I would say all of those lads will be in the frame come October 11th.”
