Galway shock leaders Shels while Longford fire six past Hoops

Here’s how tonight’s four Airtricity League first division games unfolded.

LEAGUE LEADERS SHELBOURNE slipped to a 4 -2 home defeat at the hands of Galway this evening.

Stephen Walsh put the Connacht club ahead early on before Jordan Keegan struck a 22nd minute equaliser, but both that and Gareth Coughlan’s 35th minute goal were cancelled out by Martin Coneely.

Connelly’s second came in the 52nd minute to restore the visitors’ lead and Jake Keegan sealed all three points with 25 minutes remaining.

At the other end of the table, Waterford United fired four past lowly Cobh Ramblers.

Willie John Kiely struck in either half to put the hosts two goals to the good before Gary Delaney and Paul Quilty wrapped up all three points.

A late Packie Malley goal delivered a share of the spoils for Finn Harps in Wexford as the Donegal side recovered from 2 – 0 down to force a 2 -2 draw.

Longford Town dished out the thrashing of the night, rattling half a dozen past Shamrock Rovers B.

David O’Sullivan set the tone early on, but it took until the 41st minute for the floodgates to open; Gary Shaw and Lorcan Shannon bringing up a score of 3 – 0 by half-time.

O’Sullivan’s goalscoring touch delivered a further blow in the 46th minute with Mark Salmon and Don Cowan rounding off the rout.
