Sligo boy makes a great sporting gesture with his First Communion money

A YOUNG HORSE racing fan was praised on Monday after he donated a portion of his First Communion money to the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Sligo youngster Barry McNamara donated €25 to the charity and sent it in to them with this lovely note.

“Dear Olivia, I just want to let you know that I put €25 from my first holy communion money into the fund for the injured jockeys,” Barry wrote.

“I ride my own pony called Speckles.

“My favourite jockey is AP McCoy. Mum’s favourite is (Davy) Russell.”

The IJF posted a picture of the letter on Twitter and said: “Many thanks to Barry McNamara from Sligo who donated some communion money, loving the cute card he sent #everydayhero
