FORMULA ONE TEAM members have been injured in a fire less than two hours after the end of this afternoon’s Spanish Grand Prix.
Williams’ celebrations of their first Formula One victory since 2004 were dramatically interrupted when a fire, possibly caused by an explosion, started in the team’s garage.
Up to nine F1 team members have been treated for burns and smoke inhalation. Williams, Caterham and Force India have confirmed that members of their staff have been hurt in the incident.

The fire started around 90 minutes after the end of Sunday’s race, which was won by Venezuela’s Pastor Maldonado.
It is believed that the fire was either started during the transportation of fuel or was related to KERS. The Williams’ garage was quickly filled with thick black smoke.
The number of people injured and the extent of those injuries has yet to be confirmed.
“Caterham F1 Team was involved in a fire that started in the Williams F1 Team’s garage after the end of the Spanish Grand Prix,” the statement said.
“All the team’s employees have been accounted for and four people have been taken to the circuit medical centre for examination; one with a minor hand injury and three with respiratory issues.
“A further statement will be issued when more details about the incident are confirmed.”
A Williams team spokeswoman said: “We have four people in the medical centre receiving precautionary care, and I believe one has been flown off to hospital.”
Force India tweeted: “Thanks for your best wishes to the team member who bravely went to fight the flames. He is being checked out in the circuit medical centre.”
