COMPETITIVE FIFA 17 matches are set to be broadcast live on BT Sport, the new deal meaning it’s the first time they’ll be screened live on Irish and British television.
The broadcaster will air the final four matches of the Fifa Ultimate Team Championship Series in April and May.
The tournament sees the world’s best Fifa 17 players competing on Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
The overall winner of the series receives £130,000 prize money, while there’s £65,000 up for grabs for the runner-up.
Viewings on offer are North American Regional Final in Vancouver on 8 April, followed by the Asia-Pacific Regional Final in Singapore later that month. The European Regional Final kicks off in Madrid on 6 May and then the Fifa 17 Ultimate Team Championship Final in Berlin on 20 and 21st May will also be available live to BT Sport viewers.
Competitive gaming is on the rise, and has attracted ever-increasing viewing figures online in recent years. Many tournaments around the world are also played in front of sold-out arenas.
Some football clubs, including Manchester City, have their own official eSports players, while AS Roma have a full eSports team.

They will win more than what Dundalk got for winning the league of Ireland for gods sake!
Seriously people are going to watch other people on tv playing a game of FIFA , that’s nearly as stupid as virtual horse and greyhound racing you see in the bookies !!!!
@Luke O’Mahony: People watch people watch TV, this is a step up from that. A very small one but a step up all the same!
Haha you know you have gambling issues when you are betting on cartoon like horse racing!
Up there just aren’t enough real races… Haha
Wtf
I’d be pissed off if I was a subscriber and that’s where my money was going.
Thankfully I only get it through my broadband package, otherwise I’d be on the phone straight away!
