Terminally ill Fernando Ricksen returns to Ibrox for fundraising game

Former Rangers player is battling motor neuron disease.

Over 40,000 FANS turned out at Ibrox to pay tribute to a former player who is battling terminal illness.

Fernando Ricksen spent six years with Glasgow Rangers and won two league titles and two Scottish Cups during his time with the club.

But, in 2013, he revealed he was suffering with motor neuron disease (MND).

At first, Ricksen noticed his speech becoming affected and visited his doctor with the complaint. It was there that the former Holland international was told he had MND and that it was incurable.

But, still he battles on and he assembled a number of famous faces for today’s benefit game in Glasgow.

A litany of ex-Rangers players turned up to show their support – among them Ronald de Boer, Gennarro Gattusso and goalkeeper Stefan Klos, while the opposition featured the likes of Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton.
