FERMANAGH EARNED THEIR first win of the 2014 League campaign with tonight’s convincing six-point National Football League division three victory over Sligo.
The Ernesiders suffered at the hands of Cavan last week, but first-half goals from Ryan Jones and Sean Quigley proved the difference in Brewster Park.
Quigley’s goal came after 15 minutes with the hosts one point down, and the score would prove to be the first of many for the forward who ended the day with 1-8.
Quigley also had an important role to play in Jones’ goal, linking with Leo Cullen before setting up the finisher who put Sligo 2 – 2 to 0 – 4 down with 28 minutes gone.
The Yeats County would bounce back, though, and Mark Breheny instantly cancelled the goal with one of his own and points from Adrian Marren and James Kilcullen would give the visitors a narrow 1 -7 to 2 – 3 advantage at half-time.
Fermanagh raced out of the straps in the second period and Quigley was soon on the mark with a free to level the tie and Tomas Corrigan knocked them ahead soon after.
From there, Sligo were dealt a further blow as James Kilcullen was dismissed, and by the time the second red card arrived for Keelan Cawley, Fermanagh had opened up a 2- 11 to 1 – 9 lead and the remaining 10 minutes were a procession for Peter McGrath’s men.
