Brilliant morning for Ireland in the pool as Ferguson, Ryan and Greene all book semi places

Eighteen-year-old Conor Ferguson and Shane Ryan into 100m backstroke semis, with Darragh Greene in 200m breaststroke semis.

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Conor Ferguson continued an impressive weekend for Ireland at the European Swimming Championships as he booked his place in the 100m backstroke semis.

Ferguson’s time of 54.61 in heat four was comfortably inside the top 16, qualifying him in ninth place overall.

And he’ll be joined in this evening’s semis by Shane Ryan who, fresh from his brilliant 50m bronze on Saturday, finished fourth in the final heat to qualify in a time of 54.67.

The semi-finals take place from 5.31pm this evening.

In the 200m breaststroke, Darragh Greene swam brilliantly to qualify for this evening’s semi-final in seventh place overall.

Greene finished third in his heat in 2:11.22 and is safely through to swim again later this evening (5.49pm) with a place in Monday’s final up for grabs.
